I can understand why a museum would want it, or VW, but I have no idea why an individual would pay that much for a car that they can’t drive or really do much of anything with.

Not all of us have gone barking mad, but that seller has.

Just think if it were a 23 window type 2.... I’m not even sure anyone that wanted it would be able to afford buying it, even if they did sell all thier Apple stock.

Yeah, Torch did an article on this basically saying the same thing. It’s crazy, and now no one can ever drive it.

$ 100,000 would be a stretch.
MAYBE if it was a the very first 23 Window Van to roll off the assembly line, and in the same condition.

I always find it equally funny and infuriating when people ask too much for their car, while showing it off with the worst photos of it. It adds to the joke, while also insulting me as car photographer.

entirely what the market will bear - more power to him, (and it is one of roughly 29 manual transmission cars still operating in Beaverton, OR!)

I imagine the buyer will be mad as well. They may not be mad enough to pay $1M, but it will fetch a lot. Doesn’t really matter though, if you’ve got the money, spend it on what you want. We probably should do something about the income inequality that supports such prices, but that’s a separate issue.

Yeah - and the van would be, oh ... useful!

Oh, I misread that as $1000 and thought it seemed like a decent price.

Worked on my own cars way back when, and I’m thinking about what I’d face here. Clutch plate turned to dust, throwout bearing ready to snap, brake shoes turned to mush, fuel lines rotted, gas tank probably ready to spring a leak, tires flat-spotted, frozen nuts ... how much am I paying again?
